Officially established in 1856, the economy in Wise Country started mainly with sheep and cattle production. When the railroad came through the region in the 1880s and 1890s, the economy continued to improve as it was incredibly easier to transport goods across the country. Fast forward to today, and the employment rate is continuing to rise in many job industries. With vineyards, museums, and nature reserves covering the area, and Lake Bridgepoint acting as a water haven on the eastern border, it’s easy to say that there is something for everyone in Wise County.
